For this weeks learning we explored the ways we still honour the Treaty of Waitangi today. The Treaty of Waitangi is important because in 1840 it create a agreement and partnership between Maori and British. The British signed the Treaty of Waitangi with Māori chiefs. The British promised to protect Māori rights to their lands and treasures, while in return gaining the right to buy land. Hounouring the Treaty was the one and only way that they could have peace. Till today it is still important because it is the treaty of New Zealand representing the releation ship between the Maori’s and British.
